About this song

Kids possess an incredible combination of curiosity, confidence and absolutely no understanding of how quickly an innocent decision can become a serious problem.

After the first Synthetic Medic children's song became a hit with the kids at home, it seemed only reasonable to make another one.

Naturally, this one is about accidentally drinking poison.

Children's music!

“The Purple Juice Was Poison” imagines the internal monologue of a kid who finds a colorful bottle, thinks it looks delicious and makes one extremely unfortunate assumption.

Purple.

Sweet-smelling.

Liquid.

Obviously grape juice.

Except it isn't.

There isn't anything funny about a child actually swallowing a cleaning chemical or another toxic substance. Accidental poisonings can be genuine emergencies.

The humor here lives somewhere else:

in the terrifying innocence of the thought process that got them there.

Kids don't set out to create medical emergencies.

They're exploring.

They're curious.

They're doing something that makes perfect sense according to the limited information available inside a tiny developing brain.

And sometimes that tiny developing brain sees a purple liquid and decides the investigation should involve taste.

So Synthetic Medic did the only sensible thing:

Turned the entire thought process into a cheerful children's song.

Bright melody.

Simple rhymes.

Adorable little lesson.

Absolutely horrifying subject matter.

And perhaps the most accurate sentence ever written from the perspective of a child who has just discovered that something was not, in fact, grape juice:
