The words

Lyrics

Intro

Hear my name Remember well The one who walked through flame and hell

Verse 1

Sirens sing, I lead the charge Bravest soul both near and far Boots his ground, they step aside For I alone face fire’s pride Helmet gleams in burning light All bear witness to my might Smoke will part and flames will yield When I step up on the field

Pre-Chorus

Hear them whisper, stand in awe Every eye drops to the floor

Chorus

Thank me for my service I walk through fire, none are the same Thank me for my service Speak my glory, praise my name Raise your voice let all observe I am more than you deserve Thank me for my service Thank me for my service

Verse 2

Door was locked, I broke it down Crowd erupted through the town Smoke was thick, well kinda light Still I conquered flame that night Cat retrieved from minor threat Hero status firmly set Toaster sparked, I quelled the blaze Legends born in subtle ways

Pre-Chorus

From the streets I hear the cries Surely songs of me will rise

Chorus 2

Thank me for my service I walked through fire none are the same Thank me for my service Speak my glory, praise my name Raise your voice, let all observe I am more than you deserve Thank me my service Thank me my service

Bridge

When the darkness filled the land They prayed for one to take a stand And though the flames were fairly small I answered still, I gave my all

Breakdown

Thank me, for my service Thank me, for my service Tell the tale, spread my name I alone defeated flame Thank me, for my service Thank me, for my service

Chorus 3

Thank me for my service Songs will echo through the night Thank me for my service I alone have have won this fight Raise it high your voices surged I am legend, I am earned Thank me for my service Thank me for my service

Outro

Remember me, tell my tale Of the toaster I prevail

About this song

“Thank you for your service” is a genuinely nice thing to hear.

People working in EMS, fire, healthcare and public safety don't always get much recognition, and a little appreciation can mean more than people realize.

Naturally, we ruined it.

Somewhere along the way, “thank you for your service” also became:

TYFYS.

A sincere phrase that can now be deployed with absolutely devastating levels of sarcasm.

Worked one call?

TYFYS.

Changed an oxygen bottle?

TYFYS.

Successfully located the TV remote at the station?

Thank you for your service, hero.

But then there is another level.

The public safety personality who doesn't merely appreciate recognition.

He requires it.

The shirts.

The decals.

The social media bio.

The truck.

The unmistakable feeling that somewhere, somehow, a civilian has failed to understand the magnitude of the warrior standing before them.

And after several Synthetic Medic songs lovingly abusing firefighter culture, there was really only one place left to go.

What if the hero simply stopped waiting for gratitude...

and started demanding it?

Thus was born the mighty warrior of “Thank Me For My Service.”

He does not fight ordinary fires.

He conquers flame.

He does not retrieve a cat.

He returns a helpless creature from the jaws of destiny.

He does not respond to a smoking toaster.

He defeats it in battle.

And obviously, such a man could never be portrayed with something subtle like acoustic pop.

He required Viking death metal.

Firefighters do difficult, dangerous and genuinely important work.

Appreciation is deserved.

But if you have to stop the village and demand that everyone sing of your bravery...

we may have crossed from public service into Norse mythology.

Thank you for your service.

Please stop asking.
