The words

Lyrics

Intro

Speak your ailments Confess your sins Omnia Vetita, Omnia Vetita Tell me, what harms you, from within

Verse 1

She hands me names I dare not speak A list that grows with every week “Paper, plastic, air I breathe I write it down like I believe “Epinephrine nearly stole my breath The cure itself now labeled death A hormone her adrenal glands create The very thing she claims to hate

Pre-Chorus

Every cure is her disease… She's got every allergy Omnia vetita, nihil licet All is forbidden, nothing left If I heal I risk the blame If I don’t I play her game

Chorus

Allergic to everything, hear the cry No touch, no drug, no reason why The phantom threats you’ve never seen Yet beg me still to intervene Allergic to everything, curse or lie A fragile thing I can’t deny “Nihil tangere, nihil dare “Touch nothing, give nothing So I just stand and let you win

Verse 2

“Allergic to saline, don’t start that line Yet fluids drip through veins in time “No oxygen it tightens up my chest While sat reads ninety; maybe less “No Aspirin, bleeds me from within But pressure builds beneath your skin “No nitro please don’t give me that Then tell me why you clutch your chest

Pre-Chorus

Every truth begins to fade Every rule already swayed “Scriptum manet, veritas perit The writing remains, truth will perish Say the word, I’ll seal the claim Saint or liar, it’s the same Any allergies You whisper it like a prayer to me Omnia vetita “Everything’s forbidden you breathe Like a vow you’ll never break “Omnia vetita, omnia vetita Every cure I try to give Is another line you won’t forgive I trace the words, I sign the page Still standing in this hallowed place “Omnia vetita, nihil licet Everything forbidden, nothing left “Omnia vetita, omnia vetita, omnia vetita

Chorus 2

Everything is forbidden, final plea A living, breathing paradox to me No cure, no path, no hand to take Just every truth you make me fake Everything is forbidden, sign below I’ll take you where you want to go “Signa hic, finis venit “Sign here, the end comes If breath remains We call it grace Now leave your mark And end this case

About this song

It starts with one of the simplest questions in medicine:

“Any allergies?”

Sometimes the answer is no.

Sometimes it's penicillin.

And sometimes you ask the question and accidentally open an ancient forbidden scroll.

Medications.

Saline.

Oxygen.

Adhesives.

Food.

Materials.

Possibly sunlight.

Probably the stretcher.

Give it another minute and we're going to find out they're allergic to the concept of Tuesday.

Obviously, allergies can be serious, unusual, complicated, and sometimes genuinely difficult to work around.

That's not really what this song is about.

This is about the surreal encounter where someone is asking you to help...

while seemingly eliminating every possible way you could help them.

Every suggestion reveals another forbidden substance.

Every treatment opens another chapter.

Eventually the allergy list stops feeling like medical history and starts feeling like a prophecy.

Omnia Vetita.

All is forbidden.

That's where the entire sound of the song came from.

Instead of treating the situation like ordinary charting, I wanted it to feel like gothic horror.

The medic becomes a scribe.

The allergy list becomes sacred text.

Asking about medications becomes an interrogation inside some ancient cathedral.

And every new allergy is another commandment carved into stone:

Do not touch.

Do not give.

Do not treat.

By the time epinephrine itself makes the list, we've left ordinary medicine entirely.

We're practicing medicine inside a cursed monastery now.

Which meant this couldn't just be another punk song.

It needed atmosphere.

Latin.

Drama.

Melodic metalcore.

The full weight of an ancient curse descending upon the medic who made the terrible mistake of asking:

“Any allergies?”

And somewhere beneath the fluorescent lights, the answer echoes back:

Omnia Vetita.

Everything is forbidden.
