Every healthcare worker eventually reaches the point where science has been exhausted.

You've checked the patient.

You've checked the equipment.

You've tried everything you're supposed to try.

And then the blood pressure comes back:

50/32.

Well.

That's not good.

Obviously, a concerning reading deserves a concerning response.

But before fully accepting that reality, there is one ancient clinical maneuver known to healthcare workers everywhere:

Run it again.

Maybe the cuff moved.

Maybe the patient moved.

Maybe the machine had a moment.

Maybe the laws of hemodynamics will reconsider their position if politely given another opportunity.

So you press the button.

The cuff starts inflating.

Everyone gets suspiciously quiet.

And despite years of education, training and clinical experience, you suddenly find yourself negotiating with a higher authority.

“Uh... Hey God. It’s me again.”

“Hey God, It’s Me Again” is about that tiny, completely human moment between seeing a number you absolutely do not want and waiting to see whether the next one gives you something better.

It isn't a treatment.

It isn't an intervention.

And generally, divine intervention does not appear to be an included feature of the NIBP module.

But maybe the first reading was wrong.

Maybe the next one will be better.

Maybe this time the monitor will tell you something you actually want to hear.
