The words

Lyrics

Verse 1

Tones drop on the radio Nine-one-one, away we go Lights are flashing, siren screams All the traffic parts like the Red Sea Halfway there, dispatch comes through: “Units request an expedite from you” We look around like, “What’s the play?” “We're already doing this the legal way.” Partner points where the bay shines blue: “Could cut ten minutes if we sailed on through.” I nod real slow, say, “That might work...” “I guess we're gonna see if this thing can surf?”

Pre-Chorus

If lights ain't bright enough And sirens ain't loud enough If Code Three still takes too long... Well, baby, hold on—

Chorus

Expedite mode engaged Expedite mode engaged You wanted fast? We'll be there in a flash Expedite mode engaged Expedite mode engaged We're shaving seconds Any way we can If lights and sirens ain't enough for you— We'll find another route to cruise Expedite mode engaged

Verse 2

Partner says, “We could grow some wings Clear the rooftops, skip everything.” I say, “Nah, that's F.A.A. And paperwork would take all day.” “How 'bout a plow on the front instead? Just push the traffic straight ahead.” Mount some pontoons underneath Then hydroplane down every flooded street Then dispatch cracks through once again: “Can you expedite your response for them?” We stare in silence, then we both laugh... “There's one more thing we haven't tried yet”

Pre-Chorus

If lights ain't bright enough And sirens ain't loud enough If Code Three still takes too long... Well, baby, hold on—

Chorus

Expedite mode engaged Expedite mode engaged You wanted fast? We'll be there in a flash Expedite mode engaged Expedite mode engaged We're shaving seconds Any way we can If roads are slowing down the crew— Then roads are strictly optional too Expedite mode engaged

Bridge

House in sight, but the road runs slow Twenty more yards, I think we're good to go Driveway packed and the parking's tight Guess we're gonna have to improvise tonight Cut that wheel, take the lawn Mailbox was there, but now it's gone Through the hedge, through the flower bed Garden gnome flies overhead Across the grass, no slowing down Patio chairs go spinning 'round Front door's open, scene's in sight We're gonna drive this truck right inside Through the siding, drywall, stone Fastest route we've ever known Why waste time walking to the room When we can bring this truck to you?

Final Chorus

EXPEDITE MODE ENGAGED! EXPEDITE MODE ENGAGED! You wanted fast? How's this for that? EXPEDITE MODE ENGAGED! EXPEDITE MODE ENGAGED! Through the front wall Here we are! No walk from the curb No stretcher down the street We parked the whole damn ambulance RIGHT AT THE PATIENT'S FEET EXPEDITE MODE ENGAGED!

Outro

Engine idling by the couch Pictures hanging crooked now Patient staring from his chair Hello sir, we made it here Dispatch crackles through the screams What's your status... WE'RE ON SCENE

About this song

There are few radio messages more fascinating to an EMS crew already driving lights and sirens than:

“Can you expedite?”

The lights are flashing.

The siren is screaming.

Traffic is moving out of the way.

The ambulance is already responding as quickly as conditions safely allow.

So naturally, one question remains:

What exactly would you like us to do differently?

“Expedite Mode Engaged” begins with that familiar EMS absurdity and asks what might happen if there really were another setting beyond lights and sirens.

Maybe the ambulance needs pontoons.

Maybe it needs wings.

Maybe traffic itself is the problem and a plow should be mounted to the front.

And if walking from the ambulance to the patient wastes precious seconds...

Fine.

Apparently the living room is a parking space now.

The joke isn't about ignoring urgency. EMS crews understand better than most that seconds can matter.

It's about the wonderfully redundant request to somehow go faster when the crew is already doing everything reasonably available to get there quickly.

So Synthetic Medic invented the logical next step:

Expedite Mode.

Side effects may include damaged hedges, displaced garden gnomes, structural damage, F.A.A. involvement and an ambulance idling beside the couch.

But hey.

We're on scene.
