Shift change in EMS comes with a sacred tradition:

Asking the off-going crew how their night was.

Sometimes the answer is obvious.

They look destroyed.

The truck looks destroyed.

The call log looks like a small novel.

Nobody needs further explanation.

Other mornings, however, you receive the solemn report:

“Man... we ran around all night.”

Fair enough.

Then you open the response tablet.

One call.

Maybe two.

Possibly one of them was cancelled.

And suddenly a much more interesting question presents itself:

What exactly were you running around to?

“Busiest Night Of Our Lives” attempts to answer that question.

Perhaps there was a baseball game.

Maybe dinner with the family.

Possibly a birthday party.

Fueling the truck can certainly consume several emotionally exhausting minutes.

And at some point, somebody may have briefly considered restocking.

It's not really about whether a shift had one call or twenty.

EMS can absolutely produce brutal nights, and call volume alone doesn't always tell the whole story.

This song is about something much more important:

The theatrical retelling at shift change.

Because sometimes the story being handed to day shift has just a little more action than the CAD log remembers.

And if we're going to dramatically recount the single most demanding night in EMS history...
